Blueberry Bert

Hi! My name is Blueberry Bert

I am proud to be the official spokesperson for the Sioux Lookout Blueberry Festival. I may not be as famous as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, but I do appear once a year and bring joy to an entire town. And unlike those other guys, I work hard for ten days!

This year is my 30th birthday! I was born way back in 1983 (when the very first festival took place)! Over the years I’ve watched this festival blossom into a successful and exciting summer celebration. Back in my younger days, I thought doing fifty events was a lot, now I appear at over 130 events!

In 2008, I learned how to fish, took a ride in a float plane, and met hundreds of people at the Children’s Festival. In 2010, I had a blast with Smokey the Bear & Sparky the Dog, my two best friends, we got to eat lots of hotdogs and cake! In 2011, I enjoyed the Diamond Dogs Show at the Children's Festival! Other events you might see me at are; the sporting events, Home Craft & Trade Show, Rubber Ducky Race, and the Legion Steak BBQ's!

This year is extra special because I am turning 30!! And I am sharing my special year with a very special year for Sioux Lookout. Happy 100th Birthday Sioux Lookout!! It is going to be another busy year during the Blueberry Festival and I am looking forward to having old friends come home to visit me. I can't wait to spread joy and festival cheer to everyone in Sioux Lookout and all the visitors. Come celebrate with me Friday, August 3, 2012 to Sunday, August 12, 2012. I am looking forward to seeing all of you!

Be sure to watch for me during this year's Festival. I don't say much (I’m a little bit shy) but you can always find me out around Sioux Lookout during the festival. So come on over and introduce yourself—you’ll get a big hug in return and I love posing for pictures!

Question of the Week: (August 18, 2010)

What was your favourite moment during the Blueberry Festival?

    Cameron MacMillan (age 7):

The airplane rides. I saw my grandma’s house

    Severt Chisel (labourer):

The bannock bake-off, watching them cooking and laughing

    Jodie Elliott (Tikinagan HR receptionist):

The firefighter’s social. I just turned 19 in July so this was my first social. And it was in the arena. That was cool.

Elsie Sakakeesic (Slate Falls band member):

The slo-pitch tournament. We came in from Slate Falls. We didn’t go all the way but it was fun nonetheless.
