Hi! My name is Blueberry Bert and I am proud to be the official spokesperson for the Sioux Lookout Blueberry Festival. I may not be as famous as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, but I do appear once a year and bring joy to an entire town. And unlike those other guys, I work hard for ten days!

This year marks the 28th anniversary of my birthday and the first Blueberry Festival—way back in 1983! Over the years I’ve watched this festival blossom into a successful and exciting summer celebration. Back in my younger days, I thought doing fifty events was a lot, now I appear at over 110 events!

In 2008, I learned how to fish, took a ride in a float plane, and met hundreds of people at the Children’s Festival. I want this year to be even better! We have several new events planned along with all the favorites. You may have already seen me during my first appearance at the RCMP Musical Ride. I was honoured to sit with the VIP’s and get a first row seat at such an amazing community event!

Our theme for last year was: “Let the Good Times Shine in 2009”. Although it rained almost every day! We sure did have a good time and the events were just as popular even in the rain.

Be sure to watch for me during the upcoming Festival. I don't say much (I’m a little bit shy) but you can always find me out around Sioux Lookout during the festival. So come on over and introduce yourself—you’ll get a big hug in return and I love posing for pictures!
